Harley-Davidson Launches
Middle East’s First Academy of Motorcycling in Bahrain
New academy based in Bahrain International Circuit and will cater to veteran and new riders
Harley-Davidson Bahrain, with the support from Harley-Davidson Middle East and North Africa (MENA), a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson Europe, Middle East and Africa, the world’s leading manufacturer of heavyweight motorcycles Harley, today announced the launch of the Middle East’s first ‘Academy of Motorcycling’ at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), the world renowned motorsport venue and home of the Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.
Close to 70% of Harley-Davidson’s new customers do not have a motorcycle license, and in an effort to educate new riders, as well as allow season veterans to hone their skills, Harley-Davidson has teamed up with the Bahrain International Circuit to offer a number of courses, led by trained professionals from Harley-Davidson’s acclaimed schools worldwide.
All Harley-Davidson staff at the BIC are trained by Peter Scott, a fully qualified Instructor with excellent credentials such as the National Safety Officer Driving Standards Agency DAS and CBT, Instructor IAM and Senior Observer RoADar Advanced Tutor, as well as the National Safety Officer for Harley-Davidson Owners Group (UK and Ireland).
“Our mission is to offer an industry leading experience for all motorcycle enthusiasts in the region, and not just Bahrain. It’s a great opportunity to provide learning programmes for all riders, whether they are just starting to learn about motorcycles, or have been riders for many years,” said Executive Director of Harley-Davidson Bahrain, Mr. Ian Jennings.
“Our classes are open to all, giving anyone a chance to experience the thrill of not just learning to ride a motorcycle but also the unique experience of riding a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle in a safe and controlled environment at the Bahrain International Circuit.” Said Mr. Monther Al Mutlaq, Owner of Harley-Davidson Bahrain.
Speaking about the launch of the academy, Shaikh Salman Al-Khalifa, Chief Executive of the Bahrain International Circuit, said: “The Bahrain International Circuit is a world-class facility that offers all of the required services for riders looking to learn how to ride a motorcycle, or just looking for a refresher course. Teaming up with Harley is a fantastic opportunity to open the circuit up to a whole new group of customers that are looking for an ideal location to ride.
The Harley-Davidson Academy of Motorcycling at the Bahrain International Circuit will offer three different training courses –
· The Harley-Davidson Experience: a four-hour course at the BIC to allow non-riders the experience of how to handle and ride a motorcycle safely. Students will also use the static demonstration unit “Jumpstart”, allowing new riders the chance to experience the thrill of riding statically.
· Development Courses: a one-day development course split into 2-3 hour sessions involving both off road and on road skills development. Each session will be assessed by a qualified Instructor and the rider will be given advice and training to improve specific areas of development. Riders will be presented with a certificate and a report of the areas requiring development at the end of each course.
· Advanced Courses: to be offered in the near future, these courses will be offered as the skill levels of the riders develop following their training on the variety of Development Courses.
Customers participating in the courses will be offered range of Harley-Davidson motorcycles ranging from the Sportster 883 Iron to the Electra Glide. Prices also vary depending on courses undertaken, and will range from 80BD for the 4-hour Experience course, and up to 120BD for the 6-hour Development Course.
“Our partner in Bahrain understands the market very well and the passion people in the region have developed for motorcycling, more specifically the freedom of expression that comes with owning a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle. We encourage prospective riders and existing riders to go through the training offered, no matter what brand you choose to enjoy the open road with in the end”; says Elsa Abi Nader, Marketing Manager Harley-Davidson MENA.
